Annual Wage Review 2019-20

The Fair Work Commission recently announced the decision of its Annual Wage Review 2019-20. It awarded a 1.75% wage increase, bringing the National Minimum wage to $753.80/week or $19.84/hr.

However, the timing of the increase will be staggered, and for this purpose the Fair Work Commission has divided awards into 3 categories: Category 1 Awards, Category 2 Awards and Category 3 Awards.

For employees covered by Category 1 Awards, including, but not limited to: Health and Social Assistance Workers, Teachers, Childcare Workers, Essential Service Workers; the wage increase will take effect from 1 July 2020.

For employees covered by Category 2 Awards, including, but not limited to, those in: Building & Construction, Clerical, Tertiary Teaching, Manufacturing, Graphic Arts, Printing & Publishing, Local Government, Storage Services, and Wholesale; the wage increase will take effect from 1 November 2020.

For employees covered by Category 3 Awards, including, but not limited to, those in: Arts and Recreation Services, Aviation, Retail Trade, and Tourism; the wage increase will take effect from 1 February 2021.
